HEllo!

My name’s Maria. I draw, paint, write, bake, design, travel, teach — in short, I like going places, meeting people, and making stuff. I’ve worked and wandered across every continent collecting trivia, vintage type, and animal friends along the way, all of which show up in my illustrations and hand-lettered designs.

I love to collaborate on projects that inspire a similar curiosity. I’ve illustrated two off-beat art history books with author Lori Zimmer, Art Hiding in Paris: An Illustrated Guide to the Secret Masterpieces of the City of Light (2022, Running Press) and Art Hiding In New York (2020, Running Press). Our third book (working title: Not Your Muse) is in production for publication in 2024. We’re represented by the outstanding team at Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency.

By day, I manage a youth digital news platform; Previously I served in the Peace Corps in Tbilisi, Georgia and led cultural exchange and museum education programs in Chicago. In 2022, my lifelong dream of Johnny Gilbert saying my name on national television came true when I came in second (to Amy Schneider) on Jeopardy!.

I live in Paris.
